St. Andrew offers several Bible studies and classes. The following is a brief description of each.
Bible Information Class
The course we use is entitled, "Basic Bible Christianity." This class presents basic Bible teachings by blending together Bible history and Catechism topics. It is an opportunity for students to examine what we believe and teach as a church group without making any prior commitment to membership. Those who find themselves in agreement with what we believe and teach on the basis of Scripture are invited to join us in communicant membership after completing the course. The course consists of fifteen sessions, each about an hour in length. The class also makes an excellent Bible study and doctrinal review for those who are already members of the congregation or Synod. (Additional sections of this class may be scheduled according to the needs of those who desire to attend. Contact Pastor Miller for details.)
Sunday Bible Study
This class meets Sundays before church at 8:45 AM during the school year. The Sunday School hour is at the same time. The group has pursued various courses of studies: After having studied 1 and 2 Thessalonians, Milenialism, and a Christian view of death one year, the group studied the book of Revelation in its entirety. They then studied Paul's Mission Journeys and Letters, and a unit on Cross-Cultural Outreach. They then studied, "How Can They Teach That...and Claim They Believe the Biblie?" Currently they are pursuing a study entitled "Deadly Desires--A Study of Homosexuality in the Light of the Bible." Coffee and refreshments are provided each week.
Midweek Bible Study
After studying Genesis and Exodus, the midweek class is now studying the books of Joshua, Judges and Ruth. In the past the midweek Bible study group has studied adult versions of Bible history lessons, Luther's Large Catechism, and an overview of church history. Discussion is interesting and the group cordial. All are welcome to attend. The group meets Wednesdays at 10:30 AM during the school year, except during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Check the calendar for specifics.
Men's Bible Study
The group is currently studying Lutheran spirituality. They are examining what the Bible teaches about Vocation: our Christian calling as it relates to the other roles we play in life. Breakfast is served by volunteers from the class, and the Bible study follows. Group members frequently share ideas and personal insights they would not share in another format. The breakfast fare is outstanding, the camaraderie even better, and the spiritual food best of all! The group meets ones a month for six months out of the year. See the calendar for details.
Ladies' Bible Study
St. Andrew's ladies' Bible study group has studied such topics as the women of faith in Luke's gospel, and "Great Hymns of Faith"-- a look at the circumstances leading to the composition of well-known hymns, as well as a study of the scriptural truths those hymns profess. Discussion is frequent and engaging. The group generally meets once per month on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Mrs. Kristen Miller has been the group's leader. See the calendar or call the church for details.
